Sara Olofsson is project manager for the development initiative Research subject survey. A pilot survey to evaluate the experiences of healthy volunteer study participants has been sent out and the data gathering is currently under way. In the interview below, Sara tells more about this and what is going to happen next.
Patients' experiences and views on health care are an important element in health development and improvement work. There is a national patient survey coordinated by Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions, SALAR, but it does not cover volunteer study participants' views and experiences. In order to map and evaluate this group, the development initiative has focused on study participants within primary and outpatient care. The aim is to, in collaboration with SKL, develop a national research subject survey that is routinely used for evaluation and quality-based work in clinical research in outpatient and primary care.
Project managers from Gothia Forum, Forum Uppsala-Örebro and SALAR have developed a survey to capture research-specific issues that are important for quality and evaluation work in Swedish clinical research. In July 2017 a pilot project started with the goal of collecting 200 questionnaires. The pilot is conducted at the Primary Care Trial Center in Gothenburg, Primary Care Trial Center in Skaraborg and the Clinical Trials Department in Örebro.
200 questionnaires are soon collected and then the pilot project ends. The research subject survey will then be evaluated and improvement proposals followed up, followed by final validation within SALAR's work processes and routines. The final report of the project will be completed in the first half of 2018.
