Picture describing the cooperation called Clinical Studies Sweden

Clinical Studies Sweden is a collaboration between Sweden’s six healthcare regions, funded and supported by the Swedish Research Council. The collaboration aims to simplify and develop the work of clinical studies.

Support in the work with clinical studies

The regional nodes support the work with clinical studies and can among others provide:

  • support to companies and researchers in study requests:
    • country/early feasibility – investigate whether a study can be conducted in Sweden
    • site feasibility – identify interested clinicians / examiners who can perform clinical studies
  • advice and support for clinical studies, from idea to archiving (such as study protocols, quality controlled templates and supporting documents, permit applications, data management and statistics)
  • infrastructures to help execute/contact with regional resources (e.g. trial units, quality register centres, biobanks, cancer centres)
  • training within clinical research methodology (such as GCP and statistics)
  • contacts with experts in clinical studies (such as statistics, epidemiology, health economics).

The nodes develop and coordinate

The nodes work to strengthen the prerequisites for conducting clinical studies within the own region, by:

  • providing and further developing regional support and support structures
  • capturing the development needs that may develop via the collaboration Clinical Studies Sweden, for example in a development initiative
  • reaching out with results and support produced in development initiatives within Clinical Studies Sweden.

The regional nodes also collaborate with each other by:

  • proposing and running national development initiatives
  • day-to-day coordination and exchange of experiences of processes and support structures, such as study requests
  • working groups / networks that share experiences, challenges and skills as well as manage and develop tools.

Working groups/networks

National working group for regional coordination: Works to highlight regional coordination in a national perspective. Shares good examples and experiences, acts as an evaluation group, discusses obstacles and challenges and follows up on regional implementation of national development initiatives.

National working group for QA (quality assurance): Works for increased quality and efficiency in the implementation of clinical studies and to spread good examples of well-functioning work processes.

National working group for clinical investigations on medical devices: Strengthens and develops the regional nodes' support for clinical studies in medical technology products.

National working group for collaboration regarding monitoring services: Works with implementation and further development of developed processes and templates for collaboration monitoring.

National working group for study requests/feasibilities: Further develops the national service for study requests and acts as a network to be able to offer more and faster answers to study requests.

Working group for collecting statistics on clinical studies: Works for national harmonization of regionally collected statistics in order to be able to create a national overview of clinical studies in Sweden.

National working group for communication: Exchanges experiences and collaborates on communication issues within Clinical Studies Sweden.

Legal network: Exchanges experiences and collaborates on current and common legal issues concerning clinical studies and clinical research, with relevance to the nodes' mission and work.
