Committee for Clinical Studies

The committee decides on the overall orientation and on the funds allocated to the Swedish Research Council for national coordination of clinical studies.

According to the Swedish Government’s mandate to the Swedish Research Council, the purpose of the Committee is to support and develop the prerequisites for clinical studies in Sweden. The Committee decides on the overarching direction of the work within Clinical Studies Sweden, which is adopted via the strategic plan.

The Committee also decides on the funds over which the Swedish Research Council disposes within national coordination of clinical studies, which are used for development projects and operational grants to the regional nodes, among other areas. The members meet regularly, 4-5 times per year.

Secretaries general with high scientific competence are located at the Swedish Research Council, where they are linked to the Research Council’s committees. The Secretary General for the Committee for Clinical Studies is Björn Halleröd. The Secretary General is part of the management team of the Swedish Research Council and has scientific responsibility for the Committee’s activities.

Composition of the Committee

The committee consists of twelve members and one chair. All members have been appointed by the Government. Four are proposed by the Swedish Research Council, four by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKL), and four by industry organisations for medicines, medical technology, biotechnology and private healthcare providers. Secretary general

The Swedish Research Council has a secretary general, with high scientific competence, attached to different committees. The secretary general for the Committee for Clinical Studies is Jan-Ingvar Jönsson. The secretary general is part of the management team of the Swedish Research Council and has scientific responsibility for the Committee’s activities.
